It's a scary thing to hear that you have breast cancer. The moment you get the news, it can feel like your world is crashing in around you. But fear not! This blog post will help guide you through the first steps to take after a breast cancer diagnosis. Read on for a few tips on how to keep calm and carry on.
Take Time to Process the News
It's completely normal to feel overwhelmed when you're given a life-altering diagnosis like breast cancer. Give yourself time and space to process what has happened and all that comes with it. While this may be difficult, it will help give you clarity on your next steps going forward.
Reach Out for Support
Breast cancer affects not only those diagnosed, but their families as well. As soon as possible, reach out for support from family members, friends, or even a professional counselor if needed. Having people around who understand your situation can make all the difference in getting through treatment and recovery with strength and optimism. We have a community of women just like you in The Daily Health Accelerator Course and Community. We would love to welcome you in.
Find an Oncologist You Trust
Finding an experienced oncologist that you trust is key to beginning treatment. Once you have found one that’s right for you, they will be able to answer any questions or concerns you may have about your diagnosis and treatment plan going forward. If the thought of meeting with an oncologist alone is overwhelming, invite a trusted friend or family member along for moral support during your appointment(s). If you live in New Orleans, these are my favorite!
Being diagnosed with breast cancer can be frightening and overwhelming—but there are ways to stay positive throughout the process so that you can focus on healing as best as possible. Take some time to process the news before reaching out for support from loved ones and finding an experienced doctor who is right for your needs. In no time at all, you'll have a team of people who are ready and willing to help make this journey easier! Good luck!
